NMP double scoop at the Secret Betting Club Awards
24th February 2017
I just wanted to say a big thank you to those of you who voted for Northern Monkey Punter in the 2017 SBC Tipster & Betting Awards - I'm delighted to say the service won the Gold Award in the Best Racing Tipster and Best Overall Tipster categories for the third year in a row!
Things don't always go smoothly when running the service and the inevitable losing runs never get any more bearable - even after seven years - but we're in it for the long haul and getting recognition in the shape of these awards for the good times makes the sacrifices and early morning finishes worthwhile!
For those who are not members of the Secret Betting Club and want to know more about their work, the SBC are an independent, long-standing and respected tipster review website that track services and betting systems covering a wide range of sports.
Their back catalogue of reviews dates back to 2006 and is accessible to members along with various other useful content including advice on how to run a portfolio of services and beat bookie restrictions (including how to use VPN's). The SBC are also currently running a "Better Betting" campaign against unfair bookmaker practices.
The SBC have discounted their prices for 2017 so if anyone is looking to expand their portfolio of tipsters or branch out into new sports, their work is worth checking out, especially since they offer a 90-day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their products. Thanks again to those who voted for NMP and here's hoping 2017 is as profitable as 2016!
Under three weeks until the Cheltenham Festival
22nd February 2017
It's that time of the year again where we look to build up our list of Cheltenham ante posts ahead of the Festival.
In 2016 the service enjoyed a tremendous Festival - which was the result of months of planning in the lead up to the main event.
We ended up making +26 pts profit to the lowest quoted odds in e-mails (in practice it would have been easy to win much more than this due to fact many of the prices in my doubles were settled at SP).
Some of the single winners included.....
- Unowhatimeanharry (Albert Bartlett) 25/1
- Sizing John (Arkle, w/o Douvan) 16/1
- Mall Dini (Pertemps) 20/1)
- Ivanovich Gorbatov (Triumph) 8/1
- Yorkhill (Supreme) 3/1
- On The Fringe (Foxhunters) 11/4
We also landed winning multiples involving all-weather winners we'd backed in the months leading up the Festival with Cheltenham scorers Douvan (Arkle), Vroum Vroum Mag (Mares Hurdle), Thistlecrack (World Hurdle), Limini (Mares Novice Hurdle) and Ivanovich Gorbatov (Triumph).
We were on Valseur Lido (placed 33/1 EW) and Road To Riches (placed 12/1 EW) in the Ryanair and our main ante post fancy in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Djakadam, also ran a cracker to finish second. All in all, it was a very good week!
This season we have taken long-term views against Faugheen in the Champion Hurdle (the view was he may not be the same horse after his long-term injury) and against Thistlecrack in the Gold Cup (the view was that the race is tough for novices to win) this season and our main bets in these races are now 7/2 2nd fav (from 12/1) and 5/2 fav (from 8/1), respectively. In the Stayers' Hurdle we are on the ante post favourite (who is now 6/5) at prices up to 20/1 (advised in November).
There are still plenty more races to cover before the Festival starts and we will continue to add further Festival bets to our list until the Festival starts.
We will continue to bet throughout the Festival itself too, topping up and covering our positions as the week goes on.
We will be looking to outlay a similar amount to last season with a view to trying to generate a 20pt+ profit on the week that will set us up for the start of the Flat - which is the service's bread and butter.
Jubilant January
28th January 2017
December wasn't a great month for us as we made a loss and so many horses traded at odds on in running but failed to go on and win their race.
These things are cyclical, though, and we've gained compensation in January with a rich run of form. We've backed 16 individual winners and also landed a small double.
The winners were: Petite Jack (9/4), Ertijaal (13/8), Zac Brown (12/1), Lancelot Du Lac (11/4), Garde La Victoire (7/4), Gracious Tom (5/1), Final Venture (14/1), Winter Lion (9/2), Fast Track (13/2), My Target (9/2), Mythical Madness (9/2), Bring On A Spinner (7/2), Championship (7/2), Kasbah (11/2), Isharah (5/1) and Promising Run (4/1).
The double was on Revel & Absolute Blast, who were settled at SP (as are most of my doubles).
We are +21.09 pts up for the month at the time of writing and the 2017 service is back in profit (+3.52 pts) again, despite the December lull.
