Another one bites the dust
10th November 2019
With the November handicap being abandoned at Doncaster this weekend, the 2019 turf season has now come to a close.
We will look back on this year as the year we experienced three excruciating near misses for big payouts (all were worth around 40+ pts);
1) Clon Coulis in the Royal Hunt Cup - on at prices up to 33/1 ante post - and he was beaten by a nose into second by a rival whose jockey broke the whip rules
2) Ripp Orf - had a strong bet on him at 14/1 for the Cunard handicap at Ascot and saw him finish a neck second, after going off 7/2, after his rider overplayed the waiting tactics off a steady gallop
3) Prince Of Arran - we were on him ante post for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington at 20/1 and saw him finish a nose second behind a winner who was better placed off a steady gallop
That said, it was a generally solid year for the service. Apart from a bad June (which had followed an ante post football bonanza the preceding month.....all eight singles advised in the 2018/19 season won, as did five of the seven accumulators - at odds up to 75/1) we made a profit in March, April, May, July, August and September, before the heavy rain set back in during October and led to abandonments galore.
We ended the 2019 service with a profit of +31.66 pts to lowest advised prices, from 535.35 outlaid at recommended stakes (a +6 % ROI).
It would have been possible to better this figure by taking higher odds for any of our winners (most selections are tipped up with an odds range but I settle at the lowest odds on record) and if taking enhanced places on many of the each-way selections (especially at the weekends).
