ANOTHER SPECTACULAR CHELTENHAM
16th March 2024
The Cheltenham Festival has been a highly profitable week for NMP members in the past (made around +40 pts profit in both 2020 and 2021) and this year was bang up there with the best of them - we made a 2024 Festival profit of +43.46 pts (to best prices) from 82.25 pts staked (including all ante posts...many were advised NRNB).
We made a profit on every day of the Festival and came agonisingly close to landing a couple of big chops that could have easily made it a 100 pt-winning Festival - we had Chianti Classico (15/2, Ultima) and Libberty Hunter (8/1) in a double, with the former winning and latter travelling like the winner but ending up second after taking a wide trip.
El Fabiolo pulling up in the Champion Chase busted some nice multiples we had with State Man, Ballyburn, Fact To File and Galopin Des Champs (all of whom won)
The biggest near miss, though, was Waterford Whispers, who we had lined up in a decent single and various multiples for +54 pts in the Martin Pipe - the final race of the Festival. He ran an absolute screamer, hitting 1.46 in running, but there hadn't been much pace on, given the testing ground, and he'd hit the front too soon. He ended up teeing the race up for Better Days Ahead and was second.
Still, it was a fantastic week and we had 16 winners (two w/o fav) and a number of placed horses at decent prices:
TUESDAY: Slade Steel (Supreme, 5/1 (saver)), Chianti Classico (Ultima, 8/1), Telmesomethingirl w/o fav (Mares' Hurdle, 13/2), while we picked up some 22/1 place money from Telmesomethinggirl in the main Mares Hurdle market too. We also had State Man onside in ante post multiples at prices up to 11/4. He won at 2/5.
WEDNESDAY: Ballyburn (Gallagher, 4/1), Fact To File (Brown Advisory, Evs in multples) and Langer Dan (10/1, Coral Cup) landed the spoils (we had singles on all and had all three in a wee treble as well, albeit Ballyburn was at a shorter price then), while we had Libberty Hunter (10/1) placed in the Grand Annual for an each-way return.
THURSDAY: Racing switched the New course but the winners continued to flow: Grey Dawning (Turners, 5/2, saver), Protektorat (Ryanair, 9/1), Teahupoo (Stayers' Hurdle, 15/8, in multiples) and Shakem Up'Arry (Plate, 10/1) all delivered the goods. We were on Angel's Dawn for over +40 pts profit in the Kim Muir in multiples but she fell two out, when still going well (would have likely been second behind a hot winning favourite, though). We also picked up place money off Ginny's Destiny (8/1) in the Turners.
FRIDAY: It was a case of saving the best 'til last, and the Friday was simply fabulous. Majborough kicked us off by winning the Triumph in the opening race, landing a 16/1 ante post single and teeing up a double with Galopin Des Champs (Evs), who justified favouritism in the Gold Cup later on the card. In between that, Absurde (10/1) was one of the horses we onside (not main bet) in the County Hurdle. We had It's On The Line lined up in some nice 'JP McManus' multiples on the Friday but he was touched off in the Hunters' Chase.....but we still had a good result as the winner, Sine Nomine, was one we got onside at 16/1 ante post and also backed in the w/o fav market (6/1). The gutsy grey charged home after being switched approaching the last and got on top in the closing stages for Yorkshire!
We toppled the market leaders Dinoblue and Allegorie De Vassy with Limerick Lace (5/1) in the Mares' Chase, and then Waterford Whispers rounded out our Festival when placed (7/1) in the closing Martin Pipe.
It was another fantastic year for NMP members at Cheltenham - the third time in the last five years we've made around +40 pts profit during Festival week.
