Breeders' Cup Beauty!
8th November 2024
We banged in a lovely 14/1 winner on the Friday of the Breeders' Cup meeting last weekend in the Juvenile Turf Sprint - with Ger Lyons' Irish raider Magnum Force delivering the goods with a lovely run from off the pace under Colin Keane, snaking his way through the crowd and capitalising on a burn up.
The following bet reasoning was provided to members:
"MAGNUM FORCE caught my eye at York when beaten in a Listed race over 5f in August. It was fast ground that day and at that particular meeting those drawn low were at a huge advantage.
Ger Lyons' raider had been stranded out in gate 16 on the stands' rail but he cruised through the race like an absolute tool. Colin Keane nursed him towards the faster ground on the far side of the track and he made headway through the pack, only to finish an unlucky (neck) loser behind Tropical Storm, who'd raced on the faster ground throughout from an advantageous, low draw. Magnum Force had been last off the bridle but he had to bide his time for a split from 2f to 1f out.
He then stepped up to Group 2 company at Doncaster in the Flying Childers, but things didn't really set up to suit when racing on a straight track again. There was a positional bias in the race and the first two home finished closer to the stands' rail (Aesterius led home Big Mojo).
Those two rivals reoppose here (and are 5/1 and 13/2, around second and third in the behind behind the Japanese rocket, Ecoro Sieg) but I had a look back through the other results on that particular Doncaster card and the other sprint races were similarly won by high drawn horses who kept closer to the near side than the centre of the track. I still think there could be better to come from Magnum Force. He might be closer matched with the aforementioned pair than the betting suggests, so I'm willing to give him another chance. Stall four is ideal if he can lay up with the pace at this turning track and sit just in behind what could be a generous pace if Aesterius, Whistlejacket and Ecoro Sieg all inject some pace into the race."
